Heirloom Seed Swap

Saturday, March 24, 9am to noon

The Winters Heritage House Museum will hold its second annual Heirloom Seed Swap on Saturday, March 24, from 9am to noon. Heirloom vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, collected from the museum’s 2017 garden, will be on hand for this community sharing-type event. Participants are encouraged to bring seeds to swap and share. Those without seeds may simply make a donation of their choice to the museum and select whatever seeds they find useful. Heirloom seeds are strains that are genetically pure and will produce the same plant year after year, as opposed to hybrid crosses which will not. Many gardeners collect these seeds, perpetuating them by sharing with family and other gardeners.

Please label any seeds that you bring with the seed type, date of harvest, and name (if known). The museum will have small envelopes available to help repackage seeds. Labelled GMO seeds and hybrid seeds are also welcome but should be carefully labelled as such. There is no cost for this activity, though donations supporting the museum are always appreciated.

Winters Heritage House Museum is an educational non-profit historic site and home to the Seibert Genealogy Library. It is located at 47 East High Street in Elizabethtown, PA. There is designated museum parking in the lot behind the building. For further information, the museum can be reached at (717) 367-4672.
