Shawn
Strauss
My name is Shawn Strauss, and I am a senior Accounting Major
at Elizabethtown College. I work for dining services
as well as for the service learning department. I am a thrower
for the E-town college track and field team, as well as
the College Republican treasurer. I also run E-Town Into the
Streets. Many people in the community benefit from this
day of service. The college student body goes out into the streets
and performs many service jobs such as raking
and winterizing seniors’ homes, organizing an activities
fun fair for elementary students, throwing a picnic for the
Milagro house in Lancaster, mulching the Fun Fort, and, of course,
helping out Winters Heritage House!
Service
Learning has helped me to understand the needs of a community
and how a college can foster relationships
with members in community. Also, working at Winters Heritage
House has opened my eyes to the work behind
the scenes at a museum. The auction event helped me see how
relics of the past can be worth thousands, and
the Appraisal Fair showed me how well the museum is established
within the community with well over
50 people attending.
