Winters Heritage House Museum is always seeking dedicated individuals to volunteer their time and help at the museum. Almost all of our work is 100% volunteer based and we could certainly use your help in any of the tasks listed below. Please review this Volunteer Information pamphlet for more information.

Information Desk/Office Support Volunteer
- Greet visitors with welcoming attitude
- Provide customer service
- Field telephone calls and understand basic telephone system functions
- Record and track program registrations
- Maintain paper filing system
- Proofread various types of documents
- Enter data into PastPerfect database
- Type documents using Microsoft Word
- Demonstrate basic computer skills
- Photocopy letters, brochures and other documents
- Undertake light-duty housekeeping in preparation for events
- Sort mail for staff and Treasurer
- Demonstrate basic mathematical skills
- Maintain list of office and/or household supplies
Membership Volunteer
- Assist with annual member solicitation mailing
- Update membership records
- Photocopy letters or forms
- Assist with mass mailings
- Enter membership data into computer system
- Prepare and mail membership cards
- Track member benefits and coordinate with program registrations
Tour Volunteer
- Document and handle group tour requests
- Coordinate docent assignments
- Mail confirmation letter, brochures etc.
- Confirm arrangements via follow-up telephone calls
- Distribute tour evaluation forms to participants
- Provide or assign photographic documentation of tours
Public Relations Volunteer
- Coordinate mass or bulk mailings
- Newsletters 2x – 3x a year
- Weekly Press Releases
- Maintain record of publicity
- Design event signs and flyers
- Disseminate promotional flyers within community
Library Volunteer
- Assist patrons with research efforts
- Learn types of resources available and locate information for visitors
- Maintain various filing systems
- Demonstrate basic computer skills
- Enter data into electronic databases
- Assist patrons with Internet resources
- Archive text and images
- Catalogue items in collections
- Integrate library resources into program development
Docent/Tour Guide
- Enthusiastically embrace the role of interpretive tour guide
- Adorn period costume to bring a sense of historical accuracy to programs
- Encourage and welcome interaction from adults and children
- Read and or research compiled historical documentation
- Participate in group tours, annual Bev Ulrich Mural and Architectural Walking Tour for third graders, mural tours, and other heritage events or community outreach
- Offer to participate periodically in practice tours
- Express willingness to train new docents

- Enter vendor inventory data into sales database
- Serve as a room monitor for vendor displays
Education Volunteer
- Under supervision of Program Manager, support on-site programs for children and adults.
Story Hour Volunteer
- With Program Manager and other education volunteers, plan themes and topics for 12 – 18 months
- Research themes, esp. focus on integrating resources of Seibert Library
- Document monthly lessons, including book selections, research resources, hands-on crafts and handouts using EASD Lesson Plan Form
- Teach or co-teach preschoolers for two sessions monthly for nine months a year
- Set up and clean up 1812 Meeting Room or Children’s Room
- Organize materials in Supply Room
- Enter data into electronic database as part of Digital Toolbox concept
Heritage Camp Volunteer
- With Program Manager and other education volunteers, plan and research themes for one-day summer camps
- Participate as an instructor for various sessions or a demonstrator or a special guest
- Devise supply lists for planned age-appropriate hands-on crafts
- Prepare sample craft projects
- Participate in planning and training sessions prior to camp dates
- Assist Program Manager and other education volunteers with set up and clean up during Heritage Camp
- Interact with campers and campers’ parents
